Product Description
STEP INTO READING is a comprehensive leveled reader program designed to give every child a successful reading experience. With five steps to reading proficiency, the line includes popular and licensed characters, non-fiction, phonics readers, sticker readers, and more, all illustrated with colorful art and/or photographs. In addition to steps, grade levels and Fountas & Pinnell Text Levels offer parents, teachers, and librarians additional guidance for selecting the right book for their child.

At forty-eight pages, Step 3 books are both longer and slightly more difficult than Step 2 books. This level includes some more challenging vocabulary and concepts, though the meaning is made clear through context and illustrations.
Step 4: Reading Paragraphs
Grades 2–3
For newly independent readers who read simple sentences with confidence.
Challenging vocabulary
Short paragraphs
Exciting stories
Step 4 books introduce readers to paragraphs and fully developed plot lines, though with short, punchy sentences. The pace is much quicker than in Step 3, and the vocabulary is increasingly challenging. Books are forty-eight pages long.
Step 5: Ready for Chapters
Grades 2–4
For children who want to take the plunge into chapter books but still like colorful pictures.
Chapters
Longer paragraphs
Full-color art
Step 5 books are aimed at largely independent readers and even at older reluctant readers. Short, punchy sentences are still employed, although compound sentences occasionally appear and the level of suspense is high.
