A pretty shaped leaf herb with an amazing scent. Spearmint makes a lovely accompaniment to lamb, potato or pea dishes and no herb Recommended for pot growing. Hardy Perennial. Mint has a great history and has been used through many cultures. The Hebrews laid it on the floors of the synagogue, the Romans used it as a symbol of hospitality as well as for flavouring wines and sauces. Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects. Likes a partial shade but will tolerate a full sunny position. Prefers moist, well-drained, alkaline soil which is rich in nutrients. Hardy Perennial. You should pick the leaves before it flowers. Grows more narrow leaves than other forms of mint. Leaves can be dried and frozen. Can reach 3 feet (90 cm) high. We would recommend container growing as mint does spread! Butterflies usually like its flowers. Culinary Uses. Can be infused and used to make tea. Crystallize as sweet for decoration. Great accompaniment to lamb and potato dishes. Medicinal Uses. The leaves can be used to treat chapped hands The leaf oil can be used to ease heavy colds. Macerate leaves in oil then use to massage affected areas for migraines, facial neuralgia, rheumatic and muscular aches. Particularly useful in Winter! Other Uses.
