豆苗
Description: Pea Sprouts are a popular dish at Chinese banquets. They are the young seedlings of the pea plant, Pisum sativum. These sprouts are easy to grow as they need little space and sunshine, and grow quickly.
Planting instructions:
Using microgreens tray / peat moss / soil
1. Soak peas for 6- 8 hours before planting.
2. Plant the seeds.
3. Transfer the sprouts to a location with sun and mist them daily.
4. When about 10cm tall (approx. 7 days), snip off the part above the first set of leaves (2 cm). This will allow new shoots to grow for the next harvest.
5. Peas will continue to grow shoots, can be harvested 2 more times (total 3 times) before stored food in seed is depleted. However, the pea sprouts quality harvested my decline over time.
Challenges/Tips:
1. Avoid harvesting after more than 7 days each cycle as shoots will become fibrous and difficult to chew.
2. Put near windowsill to allow sufficient light and airflow.
3. Make sure that the pea sprouts get enough water from Day 1 to harvest. If there is a lack of water, the tendrils may emerge sooner than expected, which will make the sprouts taste over-fibrous.
4. It is not necessary to fertilise as the sprouting cycle is short.
